We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst, who can navigate in both business and technical subjects, with a strong orientation towards understanding and optimizing business processes and providing insights through data analytics. They should be adept at engaging with the business areas, effectively comprehending their unique needs, and aligning these requirements to develop the scope for data products. This involves a keen ability to gather requirements and organise them into an appropriate project planning using Agile methodologies.

 

The ideal candidate should be a hybrid professional, with strong business orientation and technical knowledge, skilled in collaborating with team colleagues and managers, ensuring a cohesive and efficient workflow. By bridging the gap between business understanding and analytics product development, this individual will play an important role in driving analytics projects and contributing to the overall growth and effectiveness of the team.

 

As part of our Data Stack, experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS), Modern Data Stack concepts, cloud data warehouses, and Python would be appreciated. Strong SQL skills are required.

You would join or data and analytics experts, working collaboratively with business stakeholders and the Data Team members of Engineers, Scientists, Analysts and our Development and Technology teams.

 

The hire will be responsible for creating and improving data & analytics products to support in the decision-making process for strategic and operational matters, and process performance monitoring, using data analysis and business intelligence methodologies. The successful applicant will help Watchfinder discover the information hidden within the company’s data, helping them to make smarter decisions across both retail and operational functions.

 

Please note, this role is currently based at our Kent HQ and there is a requirement to be on site four days per week

What you’ll be doing:

  • Collaborate in cross-functional (Data, Dev/Tech and Business) teams and share ideas to solve complex business problems through data.
  • Deliver analytical insights to business areas supporting the data-driven decision-making mindset, exploring data, and identifying areas of opportunity.
  • Gather business requirements and understand the required data sources to address them, working together to the Engineering team to be sure that this data is available in our Data Warehouse.
  • Ensure that the required data is well prepared to deliver data products (reports, KPIs, dashboards in our BI tool) for the business areas, working collaboratively to address their needs.
  • Promote a data-driven mindset and decision making, challenging when data is used and supporting others how to-self serve their analytical needs.
  • Analyse data to identify operational risks, issues, process improvements and business growth opportunities; reporting it accordingly and developing data products for continuous consumption.
  • Collect data, transform accordingly, and create dbt models/datasets from the available data in Watchfinder Data Warehouse to produce analytical data products to be used in the data science projects and/or business reports/dashboards; also supporting on identifying new data sources we could ingest to our data warehouse based on business cases.
  • Manage and organise work through agile methodologies such as Kanban, Scrum and Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Drive a focus on data quality, and overall quality in data products, by telling objective data-driven stories that influence and convince teams to prioritise high impact projects.
  • Regularly present insights to senior management and wider organisation.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Degree in quantitative or social sciences area (such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, or similar) and an appreciation of data & analytics and statistics.
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL). Python and its common libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, etc would be appreciated.
  • Combining different data sources (from different applications) for data parsing, cleansing, joining and transformation skills.
  • Basic knowledge or experience of cloud platforms and warehouses (mainly GCP) and modern data stack tools, such as Airbyte, Airflow, dbt, BigQuery and Metabase will be appreciated.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to translate technical complexity in a simple way for non-technical people (writing, face-to-face discussions and on conference calls), write project evaluations, pitch ideas effectively and persuasively to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Be proactive and concerned to detect, manage and workaround data quality issues to assure reliable and high-quality datasets.
  • Naturally inquisitive, you enjoy solving problems. Experienced at documenting your processes and explaining rationale to stand behind your recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail. – you’ll enjoy working with complex data, understanding their structures, and you care about data accuracy.
  • Expert problem solver who can identify key questions, refine them by exploring data, and answer them with analysis and simple experiments.
  • Be kind and willing to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, supporting and being supported by team colleagues.
