Linux/Cloud Engineer

CONTEXT

 

As Linux/Cloud Engineer you are part of the Linux engineering team within our Hosting Services department. Over the past two years we have migrated most of our mission critical systems from on-premises to AWS cloud and extended our geographical scope to China on Alibaba cloud. You will be a member of the engineering team in charge of designing, deploying, improving and supporting Linux infrastructure for our mission critical SAP systems. You will work closely with our external Level 2 (L2) operations team, which handles all day-to-day operations, incident response and routine maintenance activities. You ensure that the L2 team receive the required documentation and training from engineering to perform their day-to-day tasks, supervise their activities and offer Level 3 (L3) help when needed.

 

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?

 

  • Design and build innovative solutions for evolving business requirements, implement them using infrastructure-as-code concepts and a high degree of automation
  • Manage, support and evolve Linux infrastructure in an international environment
  • Evaluate new technological trends, make recommendations and advise management on major evolutions in Linux environments
  • Oversee L2 operational team activities. Write and handover engineering documentation, train and consult the operations team so that they can autonomously manage day-to-day operations.
  • Analyze, manage and resolve technical incidents requiring L3 support and communicate efficiently with other technical teams involved in incident management and resolution.
  • Work in multinational teams/projects in close collaboration with engineers and architects from infrastructure and application teams.
  • Participate in the engineering activities of the wider cloud hosting teams, ensuring reuse and standardization of developed code and processes.

 

HOW WILL YOU EXPERIENCE SUCESS WITH US?

 

  • Demonstrated experience in Linux systems administration (SUSE, RHEL or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience in the usage and administration of provisioning, automation and config management tools like Terraform, Gitlab, Ansible, AWX, patch management systems, …
  • Working experience with public cloud technology on AWS, Alibaba knowledge is a plus
  • Knowledge of concepts for clustered environments and management/configuration of cluster software (for example Pacemaker)
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to automate tasks (shell, bash, python, …)
  • Demonstrated experience in performance troubleshooting in Linux environment.
  • Comfortable and confident when speaking with clients as a technical expert and able to translate technical concepts into simple terminology for clients of various levels.
  • Ability to lead and complete projects independently, as well as to be able to delegate tasks to others. Be proactive and manage expectations. Adjust to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Experience in working in an agile (Scrum) based environment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage effective working relationships within an organization and across multiple clients and/or stakeholders.
  • Experience in working in a production data center environment/cloud environment administrating Linux distribution (Suse). Work experience in a multinational IT organization. Knowledge of ITL processes is an asset
  • Graduated in an Engineering School, Bachelor or master's degree in computer science or related education
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Ready to take part in On-Call processes for important planned activities.
