Director of Transportation and International Trade

Role Overview

The Director of Transportation and International Trade ensures and improves upon Richemont Americas performance, cost and compliance in transportation, international trade activities (imports, exports & duties optimization), and our Foreign Trade Zone.  They drive both the performance and strategy in these areas.  They partner closely with internal regional (logistics operations, finance, compliance, business development, et. al.) and central (logistics, security, et. al.) teams, our brands, and external partners (carriers, brokers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, et. al.) to execute their responsibilities and strategy creation.

 

Key Responsibilities

Americas Logistics Leadership Team Member

  • Provide ideas, opinions, and business cases to help develop the Americas logistics strategy in alignment with the regional overall strategy and global logistics strategy
  • Be a key resource to provide and find necessary expertise in areas of responsibility
  • Be the go to resource for the region for areas of responsibility, including communication of business cases and needs for the region
  • Work closely with the leadership team to ensure best outcomes in both the short and long term for our clients, brands/maisons, and Richemont

 

Functional Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure performance to agreed KPIs, projects, and plans for areas of responsibility
  • Develop, implement and enforce best practices and documented procedures to manage the activities and relationships.
  • Provide suggestions and recommendations, gain alignment and implement plans for the improvement of KPIs, systems, operating procedures, sustainability (ESG), and processes improve to performance and mitigate risks
  • Execute to agreed performance metrics and plans
  • Ensure proper communication and escalation on performance of and risks to the business

 

International Trade

  • Provide subject matter expertise on special trade programs and partner with trade compliance teams to keep current on the rapidly changing trade environment, trade-related regulatory and legislative changes, customs rulings, and court decisions; assess and communicate impacts to key stakeholders and take appropriate actions to deliver required changes to maintain efficient/compliant processes for import, export and transportation

 

 

 

Strategic Development

  • In coordination with internal and external partners and stakeholders create and gain alignment to a strategic vision, road map, and plan for the areas of responsibility.
  • Create and communicate business cases for both short term and long organizational needs
  • Communication on progress on strategy and road map
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, vendor partners, and other key stakeholders

 

Talent & Organization Leadership

  • Provide direction and oversight for transportation, international trade, and duty optimization teams

  • Provide development and career opportunities and guidance to team
  • Review and develop organizational structure to ensure current and future business needs are met
  • In coordination with the leadership team, create and drive the culture of people, performance, compliance, and improvement

 

Vendor Management

  • Manage relationships with third-party customs brokers, carriers and foreign trade zone partners, ensuring performance standards are met, and any service issues are promptly resolved and communicated.  
  • Conduct regular vendor performance reviews and build actions to continuously improve capabilities, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

 

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Leverage data to track KPIs, monitor performance, identify trends and provide insights to senior leadership.
  • Partner with analytics teams to continuously improve capabilities and automation.

 

Innovation and Technology

  • Closely monitor and identify new technologies to continuously improve capabilities in support of the business. (track & trace technology, last mile logistics, claims mitigation,…)

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years management experience in a logistics operation with supervision of direct reports and diverse teams
  • Strong working knowledge of United States domestic transportation
  • Strong working knowledge of Import/Export activities and Foreign Trade Zones
  • Strong working knowledge of duty drawback and duty optimization strategies
  • Strong working knowledge of CTPAT and other US trade programs Robust network of industry contacts, including freight forwarders, customs brokers, government agencies, and other key stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal, consultative, and communication skills to effectively manage and maintain relationships across all levels and areas of the organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including dynamic presentation skills and ability to translate complex data and information into simple meaningful insights for all levels of the organization
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent skills in planning, roadmap development, and the tactical execution to implement complex initiatives
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a thirst for learning and finding new and innovative solutions to complex issues
  • Strong affiliation with Richemont values and competencies
  • English is required, Spanish and/or French is a plus
  • Licensed Customs Broker preffered
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, as well as use of computer systems and tools with an ability to type for extended periods of time
  • Advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft office excel, powerpoint
  • 4yr degree from an accredited institution preferred
  • Successful experience in a fast-paced and complex matrixed organization is a plus
  • SAP experience is a plus
  • Duty optimization and brokerage systems are a plus.
  • Experience working in a luxury goods environment a plus
