REPORTING TO       Head of China Retail Lab 

LOCATION                Shanghai, China

 

MAIN PURPOSE

Work closely with strategy and technology team to develop new and engaging experiences for Cartier’s customers, staff, and the public at large. Develop design direction, concepts and details for Lab’s product R&D projects, including prototyping and physical experience mock-ups. Produce refined, interactive, immersive prototypes of experiences, products, and services. Work with Cartier and Richemont’s relevant team members and other departments in the production and deployment of Lab-created projects.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Collaborate with Lab Lead and strategic design team on provocative, surprising, creative, and effective projects across the Cartier ecosystem.
 Actively provide ideas to different departments in Cartier China organization to optimize the way of working via new design solutions and ensure the implementation on a project basis.
 Manage the requests from the customer or from an internal department and product/graphic design perspectives and economic changes in view of improving customer experience and efficiency
 Stewardship of Lab’s overall design projects and P.O.V. regarding aesthetics, detailing and prototyping methods
 Evaluate and test technical feasibility of new concepts; steer project development toward efficient implementation post-design
 Create (and iterate) accurate, manufactural mock-ups and fast prototypes
 Actively monitor best practices, design trends, cross disciplinary design methodologies to keep lab design directions and tools up to date
 Leverage appropriate external resources in order to complement the Lab’s capacity & capabilities
 Participate in the entire development process, from design research and initial insights through from definition, feature development, CMF details and creation of detailed document for production.
 Create compelling design presentations to clearly describe design solutions – visually & verbally.
 Provide justification for design decisions to other design members in order to clearly communicate a logical design rationale
 Generate original concept as part of design team
 Lead agenda for designs on a weekly basis in order to provide deliverables in a timely manner
 Participate in design critiques and provide feedbacks
 Collaborate with various disciplines within the organization and evaluate technical feasibilities
 Explore new boundaries and frontiers with resources

 

Qualifications:
• Master or advanced degree in industrial design discipline. Preferable have a background of inter-disciplinary design studies.
• 5+ years of design expertise in consumer product design including proportions, colour, form, materials, typography, presentation; and a sense of design and visual culture (graphics, functionality, fashion, ergonomics, cultural & technological trends)
• Expertise in tools such as sketch, CAD, Sketchup, Rhino, 3D Printer, etc.
• Expertise in visualizing concepts using industry standard 2D and 3D tools such as: Photoshop/Illustrator, Rhino, Solidworks, Creo, Alias and Keyshot, etc.
• Experience in designing and delivering for retail, consumer products, electronics, furniture, and interactive devices.
• Capable of collaboration with individuals from diverse profiles
• Lean work attitude, multitasker in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Capable of expressing Cartier soul & values in any tangible concept
• Creative and craftsman approach: strong DIY mentality & capability
• Able to recognize opportunities for unusual and non-traditional solutions to old problems
• Ability to ensure operational management of the activity and resources of several fields
• Strong Interpersonal skills and communication skills
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin
