The Assistant Chief Engineer will work alongside the Chief Engineer with the responsiblities of planning, coordinating, and supervising all building mechanical operations and related systems for the Cartier Flagship boutique in New York. This position entails hands-on operational duties and administrative tasks for day to day operations. Responsibilities include the maintenance, supervision, and/or repairs to the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and emergency fire protection systems. The Assistant Chief Engineer will perform at the highest of ethical standards reflecting the core values of the Cartier Maison.



  • Assists the Chief Engineer with maintenance/engineering issues (electrical; heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing; carpentry issues; fire protection equipment/systems and auxiliary equipment, emergency power equipment, etc.)
  • Conducts regular inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment, makes necessary adjustments as needed
  • Conducts regular inspections of mechanical and electrical areas, addressing all serious deficienices promptly
  • Supervision of Life Safety Systems (fire alarm, sprinkler, standpipe, and auxillary equipment)
  • Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in the facility and ground maintenance
  • Works with department to coordinate, conduct quarterly filter changes, belts and related maintenance associated with the HVAC equipment
  • Prepares and maintains required engineering reports and logs (fire protection system, emergency equipment/lighting, HVAC equipment etc.)
  • Assist in coordinating city required inspections including but not limited to DOB and FDNY and ensuring compliance with all applicable codes as it relates to building operations and NYC laws
  • Supervises and coordinates with contractors as needed
  • Operate software associated with Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Insures the availability of adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies. Specific duties include, but not limited to sourcing, pricing and maintaining building supplies
  • Assumes the Chief Engineers responsibilities when the Chief Engineer is not onsite
  • On call 24/7 via cell phone and email; be prepared to respond to after-business hours emergency facility issues




  • High School Diploma
  • Technical Training School

Technical Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple and complex operational matters on a daily basis
  • Physical requirements to include stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Knowledgeable in standard operational and safety techniques of building maintenance
  • Ability to understand and operate the building BMS
  • Must have the ability to operate an emergency generator, and its related transfer switches, fire pumps, and domestic water pumps
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends and late nights as needed
  • 3+ years relevant experience in a commercial building operations and maintenance environment or similar
  • Universal CFC certified required
  • Refrigeration Machine operator license  Q99/Q01
  • Ability to obtain Certificate of  Fitness P98 and S95
  • Ability to use power tools and associated equipment

  • Excellent project and time management skills with ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and good management skills of department personnel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
