The Refrigeration Engineer will work alongside the Chief Engineer and be responsible with the planning, implementation, coordination, and supervision of mechanical operations and its related systems, preventative maintenance, energy management for Cartier flagship site. The Assistant Chief Engineer will perform at the highest of ethical standards reflecting the core values of Cartier as defined in its employee handbook and corporate responsibility policy. The position typically requires hands-on operational duties, maintenance work, and administrative duties as required by the company for events and normal day to day operations. The Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Cartier Flagship site, NYC corporate facilities and local Cartier NYC boutiques. This includes all electrical; heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing; carpentry issues, emergency equipment and fire protection systems.



  • Building Maintenance and Repair
    • Assists the Chief Engineer with maintenance/engineering issues (electrical; heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing; carpentry issues; fire protection equipment/systems and auxiliary equipment, emergency power equipment, etc.
    • Remains proficient in the Engineering Standards and all operational aspects of building systems
    • Supervises maintenance staff in the absence of the Chief Engineer and assigns and monitors maintenance projects for them
    • Provides for quality assurance by creating and implementing preventive maintenance programs and recommending improvements to existing programs on an ongoing basis
    • Develops/maintains effective building-specific maintenance and safety procedures, maintenance schedules,  MOP’s, and SOP’s
    • Works with Chief Engineer to Coordinate/Conduct staff training and department growth
    • Coordinates maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians
    • Conducts regular inspections of operating mechanical and electrical equipment/systems; makes necessary adjustments to operating equipment and controls
    • Conducts periodic inspections of mechanical equipment rooms and work areas to ensure clean and safe conditions are maintained
    • Ensures all mechanical equipment, systems, and electrical distribution are properly identified, labeled, color-coded and/or tagged as required, and that mechanical rooms are painted and kept in correct standards
    • Operate, repair, test and maintain all mechanical equipment, using necessary tools and testing
    • Ensure equipment is operating according to given schedule and maintain equipment logs and documentation in a clear and concise manner on a regular basis
    • Works with department to coordinate, conduct quarterly filter changes, belts and related maintenance associated with the HVAC equipment
    • Maintains ongoing communication with different departments, management, and vendors for projects, required maintenance and or company events on an everyday basis
    • Assists with the administration of inventory control programs for engineering and maintenance department and ordering of needed supplies or materials as needed
    • Participates in and provide input for maintenance staff’s year-end reviews conducted by the Chief Engineer
    • Prepares and maintains required engineering reports (fire protection system, emergency equipment/lighting, HVAC equipment etc.)
    • Ensures compliance with applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives as it relates to building operations
    • Operate software associated with Building Management Systems (BMS)
    • Interact with outside municipal agencies (i.e. Fire Department,  etc.) as necessary
    • Available to respond quickly to emergency situations (i.e. fire, evacuation, flood, equipment failure, etc.)



  • Refrigeration Machine operator license (Q99/Q01), required
  • High School Diploma or Technical Training School required
  • Ability to manage multiple and complex operational matters on a daily basis
  • Physical requirements to include stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Knowledgeable in standard operational and safety techniques of building maintenance
  • Ability to understand and operate the building BMS
  • Must have the ability to operate an emergency generator, and its related transfer switches, fire pumps, and domestic water pumps
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends and late nights  as needed
  • 5+ years relevant experience in a commercial building operations and maintenance environment or similar
  • Universal CFC certified required
  • Ability to obtain COF C92 and S95
  • Ability to use power tools and associated equipment
  • Ability to read and understand Architectural/MEP drawings
  • Excellent project and time management skills with ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and good management skills of department personnel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated and organized
