Job mission
The Retail Innovation Lab is seeking out a highly skilled industrial designer with a propensity towards physical prototyping and multidisciplinary work. You understand that every new idea must be tested and can do so in a full spectrum of fidelities, ranging from foam core and tape to 3D printing and machining. You thrive in ambiguity and exemplify the notion of “thinking through doing.” In addition, you exhibit a remarkable love of aesthetics that is founded in craft, materiality, and a deep understanding of how things work.
Main accountabilities/objective of the position
Key Responsibilities
- Be a primary contributor towards the physical output of design
- Create designs that evoke the original, pioneering spirit of Cartier
- Work closely within the design and technology teams to create experiences that seamlessly integrate the two disciplines
- Be able to produce designs applicable and appropriate for any strategic, non-production purpose, such as prototyping ideas and advancing the conversation
- Be able to translate ideas and sketches into 3D CAD at a fidelity appropriate for fabrication at any level
- Source and manage external vendors or suppliers, as needed
- Manage and organize the lab’s model shop and materials library
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in industrial design or similar
- 5+ years experience (preferably in the innovation space or in multidisciplinary teams)
- Excellence in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or Rhino preferred)
- Proficiency in the standard assortment of Adobe, Google, and Microsoft suite of products
- Works well with others, without ego or agenda
- Is able to clearly articulate challenges, ideas, and designs
- Has an understanding of and curiosity for how things are made
Expected base salary range: $75,000 - $110,000
Salary will be negotiated based on relevant skills and experience
